The Osborne Family Specatacle of Lights was
retired in 2015.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights was born at the Osborne home
in Little Rock, Ark., in 1986. That year, Jennings Osborne strung a
modest 1,000 red lights as a holiday gift to his 6-year-old
daughter. A new tradition was born.
He added more lights each year. In 1993 he strung more than
three million lights. His home became the site of curious sightseers
and long lines of traffic. Osborne’s neighbors took legal action due
to the crowds. After the court battle, Osborne packed his bulbs and
took them to Walt Disney World.
The famous Osborne Family light display moved in 2004.
They are now located on
"Streets
of America",
the former
New York Street area. Put on a
pair of complimentary holographic glasses and the spectacle takes on amazing
new dimensions. The "snow" falling nightly gets
you ready for a snugly stroll with hot chocolate as you admire the twinkling lights.
Fun Facts:
It takes a crew of 18 electricians 14 weeks to hang the lights.
Approximately 12 miles of extension cord is used to light the display.
Each building along New York Street has its own
“personality” in the windows.
The 70-foot tree is made up of 800 strings of lights and contains approximately
50,000 lights.
The canopy, a “Spectacle” favorite, hangs high above the new
brownstone-lined San Francisco Street.
